Coppola and Taracena Crack Top 10 at Middlebury's Aldrich Invitational

MIDDLEBURY, Vt. - Saint Michael's College men's cross country junior Will Coppola (Groveland, Mass./Pentucket Regional) and sophomore Noah Taracena (Hampton, N.H./Winnacunnet) both cracked the top 10 on Saturday at Middlebury College's Aldrich Invitational, helping the Purple Knights place second among five teams. The Purple and Gold women took third place.

TEAM RESULTS

  • The Purple Knight men took second among five teams with 60 points, edging out Clarkson University (62), which is coached by Saint Michael's men's cross country and Nordic skiing alumnus Torin La Liberte '17. The Purple and Gold finished second at the Aldrich Invitational for the first time since 2012.
  • On the women's side, Saint Michael's was third in a five-team field with 57 points, 12 short of Clarkson.
  • Four Purple and Gold men and three women PRed.
  • Host Middlebury topped both races. The women, who are ranked 10th in the latest U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) Division III national poll while sitting second in the Mideast Region rankings, notched 21 points. The men, who received votes toward the most recent national poll and are fifth in the region, won with the minimum 15 points.
