Taracena Places Seventh, Cross Country Teams Begin Seasons at Saint Anselm

MANCHESTER, N.H. - Sophomore Noah Taracena (Hampton, N.H./Winnacunnet) placed seventh to highlight the Saint Michael's College men's and women's cross country teams' season-opening competition at Saint Anselm College's Shacklette Invitational on Saturday.

The field was heavy with regional powers as the men raced for the first time since 2019 and the women entered their second event over the past two years. The meet also marked the debut of Molly Peters as men's head coach. Peters is in her 16th year as women's cross country head coach and 10th season guiding Nordic skiing.

TEAM RESULTS

  • The Purple Knight women placed fifth among seven schools with 156 points, edging out two regionally-ranked squads: Bentley University (173), which was 10th in the latest U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) East Region poll, and Adelphi University (179), which was ranked fourth. Southern New Hampshire University, which is first in the East and 30th nationally, won (46).
  • The men were sixth out of seven at 129 points, within 14 of Southern New Hampshire, which is seventh in the most recent USTFCCCA East Region poll. Fourth-place Stonehill College topped the field (35).
  • The men raced for the first time since Nov. 9, 2019, while the women had competed only once since then, in Hopkinton, N.H., last March 26.
  • Eight of the men's team's 12 competitors made their college debuts, including each of the top three.
