Boutelle's third victory lifts women's cross country to win, Gilgore second for men

RINDGE, N.H. - Senior Chloe Boutelle (Saratoga Springs, N.Y./Saratoga Springs) won her third race of the fall on Saturday, pacing the 60-runner Northeast-10 Conference Preview Meet at Franklin Pierce University to help the regionally-ranked Saint Michael's College women's cross country team claim victory among five institutions. The Purple Knight men were fourth out of six schools, with senior Alex Gilgore (Scotia, N.Y./Scotia-Glenville Senior) taking second.

The women, who were ninth in this week's U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) East Region poll, totaled 31 points to outdistance second-place Stonehill College (45), which stands 24th in the latest national poll. The Purple Knight men had 93 points, coming within seven of the nationally-ranked hosts. Stonehill, whose men are also 24th in this week's national rankings, won with 35 points.

In the women's squad's first 6K meet of the season, as the NE-10 Championship will now be run at that distance, Boutelle earned not only her third win of 2014 but her sixth career victory, all since the start of last fall. Her time of 26:20 bested the runner up from Assumption College by nine seconds, as those were the only two harriers to break the 27-minute mark. Senior Colleen Gilliatt (Grantham, N.H./Lebanon) was third in a time of 27:03, classmate Lindy Heffernan (Sutton Mills, N.H./Kearsarge Regional) placed fifth at 27:15, and senior Allie Gratton (Essex Junction, Vt./Essex) nabbed sixth in 27:21.

Junior Elizabeth Cubberley (Acworth, N.H./Fall Mountain Regional) was her team's fifth scorer, notching an 18th-place showing at 29:00, and classmate Brianna McKinley (Moultonborough, N.H./Moultonborough Academy) also cracked the top 25 by finishing 24th with a time of 29:50.

Gilgore had his team's top performance for the third straight meet, taking second out of 46 competitors in the 8K race by crossing the finish line in 30:28, coming within nine seconds of the winner from The College of Saint Rose. Senior Peter McKenna (Cohasset, Mass./Brooks School) was 15th in 31:45, and sophomores Torin La Liberte (Madison, N.H./Kennett) and Cody Putnam (Alburgh, Vt./BFA-Saint Albans) placed 22nd and 26th, respectively, at 32:35 and 33:08. First-year Michael Boyd (Islip, N.Y./Islip) was his team's fifth finisher, taking 33rd in 34:09.

Saint Michael's heads to Franklin Park in Boston next Sunday for the Mayor's Cup. The women's race kicks off at 10:50 a.m., while the men begin at 11:15 a.m.
