Women's Tennis Falls to Assumption During NE10 Affair

COLCHESTER, Vt. - The Saint Michael's College women's tennis team lost to Assumption University, 6-1, on Saturday during Northeast-10 Conference play at the SMC Tennis Courts.

THE ACTION

  • Seniors Ava Albis (Hamden, Conn./Hamden) and Bree Cotroneo (Middlebury, Vt./Middlebury Union) lost a 6-3 decision at No. 1 doubles, as Assumption won both matches to take the opening point. Sophomores Molly Gannon (Queensbury, N.Y./Queensbury) and Emma Posada (Peru, N.Y./Peru) partnered at No. 2.
  • The Greyhounds, who carried only five players, defaulted at No. 3 doubles and No. 6 singles, leaving the teams tied, 1-1, entering singles play.
  • Sophomore Natalle Meiler (South Burlington, Vt./South Burlington) had the closest singles decision, losing by a 6-2, 6-4 count at No. 3.
  • Albis, Cotroneo and senior Emma Jane Tagliaferro (Bedford, N.H./Bedford) all won four games during straight-set defeats at No. 1, 2 and 5, respectively, while sophomore Liberty Jackson (West Tisbury, Mass./Pentucket Regional) took three games in the fourth spot.
