COLCHESTER, Vt. - Eight Saint Michael's College women's tennis players qualified for Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Scholar-Athlete status for the 2020-21 school year, it was announced this week, while the Purple Knight squad drew an ITA All-Academic Team accolade for the second straight year.

Rising seniors Abby Edelmann (Boxford, Mass./Masconomet Regional), Sarah Knickerbocker (Essex Junction, Vt./Essex), Elly McKenna (Lowell, Mass./Lowell Catholic), Jenny Panergo (Brooklyn, Mich./Columbia Central) and Annie Serkes (Garden City, N.Y./Sacred Heart Academy), rising juniors Bree Cotroneo (Middlebury, Vt./Middlebury Union) and Zoe Rogers (Shelton, Conn./Shelton), and rising sophomore Mary Leys (Newport, R.I./Saint George's School) were all named ITA Scholar-Athletes, necessitating a minimum 3.5 grade-point average during the 2020-21 school year.

The eight Purple and Gold qualifiers were among 27 women from the Northeast-10 Conference named ITA Scholar-Athlete, as 711 student-athletes from across NCAA Division II claimed recognition. Saint Michael's led the NE10 with eight selections for the second straight year while taking second in the East Region in 2020-21 to Saint Thomas Aquinas (N.Y.) College, which had nine.

The Purple Knights, who just finished their first season under head coach Megan Collins, were among four NE10 programs to garner ITA All-Academic Team honors. In all, 104 programs from Division II qualified by posting a 3.2 GPA or better for the most recent school year.
