Women's Ice Hockey Falls to Post, 2-0, During Weekend Finale

SOUTH BURLINGTON, Vt. - The Saint Michael's College women's ice hockey team allowed goals in the first and last minutes on Saturday for the only scoring in a 2-0 loss to Post University during New England Women's Hockey Alliance (NEWHA) play in Cairns Arena. The teams capped a season-opening weekend series.

  • Saint Michael's (1-1, 1-1 NEWHA), Post (1-1, 1-1 NEWHA)

  • Junior Leah White (Hingham, Mass./The Winchendon School), 34 saves
  • Senior Jenna Harrison (Kitchener, Ontario/Wellesley), 10-for-15 faceoffs, 2 blocked shots
  • First-year Elisabeth Gerebi (Victoria, Minn./Chanhassen), 6-for-12 faceoffs
  • Senior Maeghan Kennard (Hamlin, N.Y./Niagara Jr. Purple Eagles), 8-for-20 faceoffs
  • Junior Emma Kelly (Dorchester, Mass./Boston Latin School), 2 blocked shots

  • Sophomore Kiersten Browning, 1 goal, 1 assist, +2
  • Sophomore Sheridan Terrazzano, 1 goal, +2
  • First-year Hannah Saunders, 34 saves

  • Post held slim edges in shots (36-34) and faceoff victories (26-25).

  • Terrazzano scored the winning goal just 34 seconds into the contest, slipping a shot home from the right circle.
  • White kept it a 1-0 game by denying Terrazzano's breakaway bid with seven minutes gone.
  • The Purple Knights had a good look at an equalizer late in the second period, as the rebound of sophomore Angelina Ruiz's (Independence, Minn./Gentry Academy) shot during a power play bounced to senior Callie Wiley (Andover, Mass./Andover), but Saunders recovered to negate Wiley's open look at the left side of the net with five minutes left in the frame.
  • White made a pad save of sophomore Alexandrea Bednar's bid from the right circle at 4:10 of the third period before registering a glove stop on senior Catherine Proulx at the right post with 8:39 gone.
  • Kennard nearly tied the game 11 minutes in, but her shot from the slot trickled through the netminder's five-hole and just wide of the left post. Kennard made a couple nice moves to get in close around 15:20, but her shorthanded bid from the slot was denied.
  • With White pulled and the final seconds winding down, Browning picked off an errant pass by a Purple Knight and slid a shot just inside the right post with 0.8 seconds left in regulation to pad the lead.
