Men's and Women's Swimming & Diving Swept by Bates on Senior Day

COLCHESTER, Vt. - The Saint Michael's College men's and women's swimming & diving teams lost their first meetings with Bates College on Saturday during Senior Day at the Ross Sports Center. The men fell by a 178-107 count, while the women were defeated 180-82.

Prior to the meet, the Purple Knights honored their four seniors: Nate Imbergamo (Madison, Conn./Daniel Hand), Maggie King (Clinton, Conn./Mercy), Sean McGurn (Braintree, Mass./Braintree) and Myron Prograis (Etters, Pa./Cedar Cliff).

THE ACTION

  • Settle won both one-meter diving competitions, netting 141.25 points in the five-dive opener and 177.17 in the six-dive second event. Juniors Liam Burke (Scotia, N.Y./Scotia-Glenville) and Dennis Sullivan (Hudson Falls, N.Y./Hudson Falls) were second and third, respectively, in both, with Sullivan just 0.22 points behind Burke in the six-dive event.
  • Imbergamo and McGurn were members of a pair of runner-up relays, including siding with Prograis and first-year Thomas Kane (Sparta, N.J./Pope John XXIII Regional) during the 200-yard medley. Imbergamo, Kane and McGurn joined first-year Will Englehardt (Sparta, N.J./Sparta) to take second in the 200-yard freestyle relay, holding off the third-place quartet by 0.47 seconds.
  • Kane was second in the 50-yard butterfly, within 0.45 seconds of the winner and 0.24 ticks better than the next finisher, while taking second in the 100 fly, losing by 0.24 seconds.
  • McGurn was second in the 100-yard breaststroke and third during the 1,000 free, while Imbergamo placed third in the 100-yard backstroke and fourth during the 200 free. He was 0.3 seconds out of second place in the former and 0.93 ticks shy of third during the latter.
  • Sophomore Trevor Johnson (Salem, Mass./Salem) took third in the 100 breast, while junior Nolan Speidel (Chelmsford, Mass./Chelmsford) nabbed fourth in the 1,000 free, within 0.8 seconds of third.

THE ACTION

  • King won both one-meter diving events, tallying 119.10 points in the first and 118.92 in the second.
  • First-years Jessie Hart (Canton, Mass./Canton) and Margaret Wilk (Hardyston, N.J./Pope John XXIII Regional) swam for both third-place relays. In the 200 medley, they sided with junior Marisa Butzirus (Coronado, Calif./Coronado) and first-year Kaylan Conliffe (Windsor, Conn./Windsor) before joining sophomores Caroline Gust (North Andover, Mass./North Andover) and Emily McLane (Morrisonville, N.Y./Peru) during the 200 free relay.
  • Wilk took third in the 100 fly, coming within 0.15 seconds of the runner-up, while Butzirus was third in the 50 back. Hart placed third in the 50 breast, and McLane finished third in the 100 breast.
  • Sophomore Rachel McAdams (Cromwell, Conn./Cromwell) touched the wall third during the 1,000 free.
  • Gust nabbed fourth and Conliffe was fifth in the 50 fly, coming within 0.26 and 0.56 seconds, respectively, of the top three.
