Farrell and Krone crack top 20, Saint Michael's finishes UNH Carnival

FRANCONIA, N.H./JACKSON, N.H. - Saint Michael's College Alpine skiing sophomores Brad Farrell (West Windsor, Vt./Sharon Academy) and Kevin Krone (Copper Mountain, Colo./Summit) both cracked the top 20 during the slalom on Saturday during the second and final day of the University of New Hampshire Carnival.

The Purple Knight Alpine and Nordic teams, which entered the day having combined to take 13th place on Friday, completed the carnival 12th among 16 institutions with 166 points. The University of Vermont won with 953 points, with the Alpine portion of Saturday's meet being held at Cannon Mountain Ski Area and Nordic races being contested at the Jackson Nordic Center.

Thanks to the performances of Farrell, Krone and senior Carl-Oscar Bredengen (Oslo, Norway/Donski Alpine), the Saint Michael's men's Alpine squad scored sixth-place points in the slalom, with 67 points. Krone finished a career-high 13th with a combined two-run time of 1:32.19, buoyed by the fourth-fastest second run of the day (46.36). Farrell claimed 17th in 1:32.90, while Bredengen rounded out the Purple Knight scorers by taking 27th at 1:36.72. No women qualified for a second run.

For the fourth time in as many races this winter, first-year Torin La Liberte (Madison, N.H./Kennett) paced the Nordic men's team, taking 59th during the 20K freestyle mass start in 54:26.8. Classmate Ryan Boquist (Meredith, N.H./Inter-Lakes) was 83rd, and junior Isaiah St. Pierre (Charlestown, N.H./Fall Mountain Regional) rounded out the Granite State trio during a return to their home state.

In the women's 15K freestyle mass start, junior Chloe Boutelle (Saratoga Springs, N.Y./Saratoga Springs) was 68th in 49:12.3. Senior Silke Hynes (Burlington, Ontario/Milton District) placed 84th, and first-year Julia Snyder (Fairfax, Vt./BFA-Fairfax) finished 86th.

The Alpine squad is back on the slopes tomorrow at the Burke Mountain Resort for a makeup of the previously postponed University of Vermont Carnival slalom. The Nordic skiers next compete when the Nordic portion of the UVM Carnival takes place next Saturday and Sunday at the Trapp Family Lodge in Stowe.
