Softball Splits On Day Two Of Gene Cusic Classic

FORT MYERS, Fla. - Saint Michael's College (2-2) earned a 6-3 win versus Wilmington (Del.) College in Sunday's second contest at the gene Cusic Collegiate Classic, but suffered a 1-0 loss to the University of North Dakota in the opener.

Versus Wilmington, freshman Megan O'Connor (Georgetown, Mass./Georgetown) pitched six-plus innings of relief to earn the victory, and aided her cause by going 2-for-3 at the plate with a double and two runs batted in. Senior Elizabeth Pigeon (Saint Albans, Vt./BFA-Saint Albans) went 3-for-4, while junior Casey Brooks (Colchester, Vt./Colchester) went 2-for-3 with a triple and RBI to lead the Purple Knights' nine-hit attack.

In the opener, junior Meggan Roberge (Sheldon Springs, Vt./Missisquoi Valley Union) suffered the tough-luck loss, allowing just four hits in a complete game effort. Sophomore Maggie Russell's (Wellesley, Mass./Wellesley) single was the love hit for Saint Michael's versus the Fighting Sioux.

Saint Michael's returns to action on Monday with games against the University of Minnesota-Moorhead at 9 a.m. and Post University at 11 a.m.
