COLCHESTER, Vt. - Saint Michael's College men's lacrosse first-years Ethan Hughes (Trumbull, Conn./Trumbull) and Sebastian Simonson (Spruce Grove, Alberta/Spruce Grove Composite) were both named to the Northeast-10 Conference All-Rookie Team on Tuesday, as 16 student-athletes were lauded around the league.
The Purple Knight duo gave the program 11 NE10 All-Rookie Team selections in the past nine years. Both played key roles in Saint Michael's standing seventh in NCAA Division II in man-up offense (46.0%).
Hughes posted 12 goals, six assists and 11 ground balls while netting six of his goals during man-up situations, tying for second in the league in the category. He turned in six multi-point outings, including scoring once and handing out two assists at No. 4 Adelphi University. Hughes tacked on two goals and two ground balls at American International College, two goals and one ground ball in a 12-11 win over No. 19 Lake Erie (Ohio) College, and two goals at No. 17 Saint Anselm College.
Simonson had 25 goals, five assists, 19 ground balls and five man-up goals, finishing second on the team in goals. He is tied for sixth in the NE10 in man-up markers and tied for 18th in goals. Simonson turned in four hat tricks this year and scored 10 goals in the final four games alone. Among his top performances were a four-goal, two-assist showing at AIC and a four-goal effort at The College of Saint Rose, which was receiving national votes, as his goal with three seconds left forced overtime. He had a hat trick and five ground balls in a 10-4 victory over Franklin Pierce University, which was receiving votes, and two tallies in a 12-11 win over No. 19 Lake Erie.
