COLCHESTER, Vt. - Saint Michael's College men's lacrosse first-year Cooper Wilson (Niskayuna, N.Y./Niskayuna) was named Northeast-10 Conference Rookie of the Week for the week ending on Sunday, April 17, landing the accolade for the second time this spring. Sophomore Spencer Scardino (Niskayuna, N.Y./Niskayuna) earned a spot on the Weekly Honor Roll for the fourth time.
Wilson finished 26-for-46 (56.5%) on faceoffs with 15 ground balls during a 1-1 week. In a 10-4 win over Franklin Pierce University, which was receiving national votes, on Tuesday, he was 10-for-18 on draws with six ground balls before going 16-for-28 at the X with nine ground balls at No. 17 Saint Anselm College on Saturday. In eight games this year, Wilson is 77-for-177 (43.5%) on draws with a team-high 40 ground balls. He stands eighth in the NE10 in faceoff victories and 12th in ground balls despite missing five outings.
Scardino averaged 16.0 saves with a .593 save percentage last week. He made 14 saves while scooping a pair of ground balls against Franklin Pierce before adding 18 stops in 55:35 at No. 17 Saint Anselm. Scardino is first in NCAA Division II in saves (209) while standing second in saves per game (16.1) and 17th in save percentage (.560). He leads the North Region in both total saves and average while taking ninth in save percentage. Scardino's save total is third in program history, and two shy of Mike Marino '97 for second place. Marino posted 211 as a senior in 1997. Only John Eckroth '99, with 269 in 1998, had more.
Saint Michael's, which is receiving votes toward this week's New England Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association (NEILA) poll, stands 2-11 overall and 1-7 in the NE10 heading into Saturday's Senior Day home game with Southern New Hampshire University, which is set to begin at 11 a.m. The Penmen are third in this week's NEILA rankings.
