Men's Lacrosse Suffers 11-10 Loss in Overtime at Nationally-Regarded Saint Rose

ALBANY, N.Y. - The Saint Michael's College men's lacrosse team wiped out a four-goal deficit over the final 7:22 of regulation before losing to The College of Saint Rose, 11-10 in overtime, on Wednesday during Northeast-10 Conference play at Sullivan Field. The Golden Knights received a vote toward this week's United States Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association (USILA) national poll.

THE ACTION

  • Pemrick and junior Cam Smith scored 42 seconds apart to give Saint Rose a 2-0 lead by 9:21 of the first quarter.
  • Sheridan (4:29) and Simonson (4:07) countered by scoring 22 seconds apart, with first-year Cristian Reyes (Norwood, Mass./Xaverian Brothers) assisting the tying goal, before Chirgwin gave Saint Michael's a 3-2 edge at 12:46 of the second stanza.
  • Sheedy scored twice in a 4-1 run, giving the Golden Knights a 6-4 lead 2:48 after halftime.
  • The visitors twice rallied within one goal, including on Simonson's man-up tally off of Hirshom's feed at 2:15 of the third, producing a 7-6 margin.
  • Sheedy scored 49 seconds later before fifth-year John Loughlin netted the next two markers, and Saint Rose led 10-6 with less than eight minutes remaining in regulation.
  • Woods' solo effort on a clear led him directly to goal, and he tallied at 7:22.
  • Hirshom found the net at 1:49 before Saint Rose possessed in the final minute. While looking to run out the clock, a Golden Knight was knocked offside by Scardino, who came all the way from his net to pressure around midfield, at 33 seconds. With new life, Hirshom scored again five ticks later. Sophomore Rocky Grillone (Brockton, Mass./Cardinal Spellman) secured the ground ball on Wilson's ensuing faceoff win and, after a timeout, Hirshom found Simonson, who ripped the tying goal home with three seconds left.
  • Wilson won the faceoff to begin overtime, but Saint Michael's was unable to get a shot away while draining the clock on the opening possession.
  • Saint Rose succeeded on the following clear and called a timeout at 2:26, and Pemrick split the defense before beating Scardino at 1:44 for the sudden-victory goal.
