THE ACTION

  • Katavolos scored 43 seconds into the game off of sophomore Colin Steiger's (Sudbury, Mass./Lincoln-Sudbury Regional) pass to kick off a three-goal spurt in a matter of 2:43. Grillone converted a Katavolos dish at 11:45 before Nzeako made it 3-0 1:11 after that.
  • Roberts Wesleyan responded with seven of the next nine goals to take a 7-5 lead on Doviak's man-up goal at 11:54 of the third quarter, as the Redhawks used three extra-man tallies to key their surge. Lemieux turned in three points in the stretch, when he and Chalmers both scored twice.
  • Nzeako scored just 1:22 later, and Grillone found the equalizer off of an Nzeako pass at 10:49 of the fourth quarter.
  • Saint Michael's clamped down defensively during the second half, yielding only one goal - Doviak's man-up strike - during a 23:54 span between the end of the second quarter and Lemieux's go-ahead goal at 6:44 of the fourth quarter. Doviak pushed the lead back to two goals, 9-7, 1:57 later.
  • Grillone found Collins to cut the deficit to 9-8 at 3:53, only 56 seconds after Doviak's goal, leading to a final four minutes that Saint Michael's controlled. The Purple Knights forced three turnovers and had three looks at tying goals down the stretch, including as Gerardi snagged a ground ball in his end and streak downfield in the waning seconds before dishing to Katavolos, whose shot just before the final horn was saved by Hynes.
