Eleven Purple Knights score, men's lacrosse downs American International

COLCHESTER, Vt. - Eleven different players scored, and the Saint Michael's College men's lacrosse team used a nine-goal third quarter to pull away for a 19-6 win over American International College on Saturday at Duffy Field. The Purple Knights improved to 2-8 overall and 1-8 in the Northeast-10 Conference, while the Yellow Jackets are winless through 16 overall and 11 league games.

Sophomore Hunter Goodwin (Milton, Vt./Milton) and first-year Anthony Sullivan (Westfield, Mass./Westfield) had their finest days wearing Purple and Gold during their first career starts, as Goodwin, who missed last season due to injury, netted the first four goals of his career while adding two assists, and Sullivan registered his initial college hat trick in addition to lending three helpers.

Sophomore Conor DiNatale (Needham, Mass./Needham) was 10-for-11 on faceoffs with a career-high eight ground balls, and first-year Justin Richmond (New Market, Md./Linganore) finished 10-for-16 at the X with four ground balls and three caused turnovers. Sophomore Matt Cotter (Acton, Mass./Acton-Boxboro Regional) scooped five ground balls, junior Neil Gallagher (Sudbury, Mass./Green Mountain Valley School) totaled three ground balls and two caused turnovers, while classmate Johnny Karanasios (Bedford, N.H./Bishop Guertin) recorded two ground balls, two caused turnovers and an assist. Junior Matt Hanley (Plainview, N.Y./Bethpage) picked up the win after collecting four saves and four ground balls in the opening 45 minutes.First-year Alec Sharlow (Watertown, N.Y./South Jefferson) scored his first two career tallies, and sophomore David Malota (Warwick, N.Y./Warwick Valley) posted his first college goal with an assist. Junior Charlie Murphy (Duxbury, Mass./Duxbury) and sophomore Matt Blois (Cheshire, Conn./Cheshire) both had two goals and one assist, while first-years Jason Feinberg (Geneva, N.Y./Geneva) and Ralph Grillone III (Brockton, Mass./Cardinal Spellman) notched one goal and two helpers apiece.

Junior Brian Loughlin (Kingston, N.Y./Kingston) dished off two helpers, and senior Tom Fitzgerald (Cranford, N.J./Cranford), junior Bobby Frank (Saratoga Springs, N.Y./Saratoga Springs) and sophomore James Aloisi (Nantucket, Mass./Nantucket) each found the back of the net once. Junior Jake Sonberg (Bedford, N.H./Bishop Guertin) made one save during the fourth quarter.

Senior Kevin Papineau led AIC with two goals and one assist, while classmate Luke Allen had six caused turnovers and five ground balls. First-year Matt Sayegh totaled 17 saves and three ground balls.

Junior Jack McIntyre scored at 12:39 of the opening quarter to give the visitors the first goal before Sullivan countered 47 seconds later. He added his second tally with 5:32 left and dished off on Goodwin's initial goal 50 seconds after that, but Papineau fed senior John Magliano for a man-up marker at 3:41, keeping the Yellow Jackets within 3-2. Blois scored with 49 seconds left and Goodwin at 10:02 of the second period to push the lead to three, but Papineau found the back of the net at 2:46 to keep AIC within 5-3 at halftime.

Sullivan extended the lead to three at 14:13 of the third quarter before the Purple Knights rattled off their next eight goals in a matter of 7:24. Seven players scored, with Goodwin's pair of markers leading the way. Frank's tally with 12:14 left in the contest capped an 11-1 run to make it 16-4, as five different Saint Michael's players scored in the final quarter.

The Purple Knights conclude their road schedule at No. 20 Bentley University on Tuesday at 5 p.m. The Falcons' national ranking is according to the United States Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association (USILA).
