Men's lacrosse finishes 2014 campaign with setback to No. 2 Le Moyne

COLCHESTER, Vt. - The Saint Michael's College men's lacrosse team concluded its 2014 season with an 18-6 loss to second-ranked Le Moyne College on Saturday during Senior Day at Duffy Field. The Purple Knights end up 4-10 overall and 4-7, while the Dolphins are 13-1 and 10-1.

Six different players scored for Saint Michael's, which last played on April 18, including seniors Connor Glackin (Mission Viejo, Calif./Saint Anthony's), Tim McDonald (Walpole, Mass./Walpole) and Asa Sargent (Ripton, Vt./Middlebury Union). Glackin added four ground balls. Junior Matt Dromeshauser (Norwell, Mass./Norwell) and first-years Galen Antolino (Exeter, N.H./Exeter) and Billy Farrell (Portland, Maine/Deering) also tallied, with Farrell netting the first of his career. Sophomore Jamie McGill (Needham, Mass./Needham) had two assists.

Junior Luke Solms (Bedford, N.H./Northfield Mount Hermon) and sophomore Brian Devilly (Norwell, Mass./Norwell) both had three ground balls and a caused turnover, while senior Sean Smith (West Islip, N.Y./Saint John the Baptist Diocesan) scooped two ground balls. Classmate Cooper Quenneville (Shoreham, Vt./Gould Academy) notched five ground balls and won nine face-offs. In his third college start, senior Theo Ferguson (Bethlehem, N.Y./Bethlehem Central) made eight saves, the second-best total of his career, before classmate Andrew Landers (Manchester, Mass./Proctor Academy) had seven stops in the second stanza.

Junior Kevin Kelly (Basking Ridge, N.J./Ridge) netted four goals for Le Moyne, and senior Kam Bumpus (Marshfield, Mass./Bridgton Academy) added two points, nine ground balls and a 10-for-12 face-off showing. Junior Pat Brothers (Burlington, Mass./Malden Catholic) made two saves in the opening 39:22 for the win.

McDonald converted a McGill pass for a goal at 11:39 of the opening period to give Saint Michael's a 1-0 edge, and the hosts held the Dolphins scoreless for more than eight minutes before they tallied twice in a minute to nab a 2-1 lead with 5:41 left. Two goals seven seconds apart extended the lead in the final two minutes.

From his spot on defense, Smith carried into the attack zone and found Dromeshauser to bring the hosts within 6-2 at 7:42 of the second quarter, but Le Moyne scored the next four goals, including while taking a 9-2 advantage into halftime. Sargent was later assisted by Quenneville at 6:09 of the third quarter before the visitors responded 38 seconds after that, and the Dolphins led 14-3 early in the fourth period.

Saint Michael's scored three of the next five goals, with Farrell being fed by first-year Taylor Wallace (Bedford, N.H./Bedford) at 12:14, Antolino tallying off a McGill pass at 8:00, and Glackin completing his team's scoring by finding the back of the net at 3:21 thanks to senior Evan Antolino's (Exeter, N.H./Exeter) dish.

Eight seniors were honored during a pregame ceremony: Evan Antolino, Ferguson, Glackin, Landers, McDonald, Quenneville, Smith and Chris Casserly (Kensington, N.H./Exeter), who missed the game due to injury. Sargent, who was honored during the 2013 Senior Day, also played his final game in Purple and Gold.
