Men's lacrosse falls at Assumption during NE-10 action

WORCESTER, Mass. - The Saint Michael's College men's lacrosse team fell to Assumption College, 13-8, on Saturday in Multi-Sport Stadium during Northeast-10 Conference play. The Purple Knights had a two-game winning streak snapped in falling to 2-5 overall and 2-2 in the league, while the Greyhounds are 4-5 and 2-4.

Senior Evan Antolino (Exeter, N.H./Exeter) had two goals and two assists for Saint Michael's, while classmate Asa Sargent (Ripton, Vt./Middlebury Union) and junior Matt Dromeshauser (Norwell, Mass./Norwell) both lent two goals and a helper. Senior Tim McDonald (Walpole, Mass./Walpole) posted a goal and an assist, while classmate Cooper Quenneville (Shoreham, Vt./Gould Academy) scored, picked up seven ground balls and went 7-for-12 on face-offs. Senior Andrew Landers (Manchester, Mass./Proctor Academy) put together a career-high 14 saves.

Junior Garrett Smith (East Syracuse, N.Y./East Syracuse Minoa) paced Assumption with five goals, classmate Ty Martina (Marshfield, Mass./Marshfield) had a hat trick, and junior Paul Curran (Wading River, N.Y./Shoreham-Wading River) notched two goals and two assists. Sophomore Nick Guarino (Avon, Conn./Avon) went 13-for-23 on draws, and junior Will Contento (Marshfield, Mass./Marshfield) stopped eight shots.

Assumption scored the first three goals of the game by the time 6:40 remained in the first quarter before Saint Michael's quickly responded, with Dromeshauser and Sargent scoring 30 seconds apart later in the period. Antolino assisted both, which brought the visitors within 3-2 at 4:23. The Greyhounds were assessed a penalty on the second goal but won the ensuing face-off, and Smith netted a man-down tally at 3:59 to make it 4-2.

Quenneville again brought the visitors within a goal at 1:11, but Assumption posted six of the next seven tallies, with three apiece sandwiched around a Dromeshauser marker 1:26 before halftime. With their team down 10-4 at 12:24 of the third quarter, Antolino and Sargent scored 39 seconds apart to bring Saint Michael's within four goals at 10:57. The Greyhounds responded with the next two goals, and Antolino and McDonald netted consecutive man-up markers 27 seconds apart by 11:14 of the fourth to make it 12-8. However, the final goal of the game came from Martina at 5:28.

The Purple Knights return home to take on Bentley University on Tuesday at 3:30 p.m.
