MANCHESTER, N.H. - Junior Evan Antolino (Exeter, N.H./Exeter) netted a hat trick for the second straight game, and the Saint Michael's College men's lacrosse team downed Southern New Hampshire University, 9-5, on Tuesday at Larkin Field. The Purple Knights, who are receiving votes toward this week's United States Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association (USILA) national poll, improved to 3-2 overall and 2-0 in the Northeast-10 Conference, while the Penmen are 2-5 and 2-1.
Antolino matched his career best with the three markers while setting a personal high of four points. Junior Connor Glackin (South Huntington, N.Y./Saint Anthony's) added a pair of goals, and senior Marty Vanzo (Westford, Vt./Essex/Vermont) dished off three assists to move into a tie for 10th in program history with 44 for his career. Classmate Pete Donnally (Madison, N.J./Morristown-Beard School) added a goal and an assist, and now sits sixth in school annals with 134 career points. Junior Chris Casserly (Kensington, N.H./Exeter) went 11-for-16 on face-offs, and classmate Chris DeMairo (Bethpage, N.Y./Bethpage) made two saves in the opening half to earn the win. Junior Andrew Landers (Manchester, Mass./Proctor Academy) added a career-high seven during the final 30 minutes during a relief stint.
Sophomore Phil LaTorre (Londonderry, N.H./Londonderry) scored twice for the Penmen, while junior Rob Murray (Marblehead, Mass./Gould Academy) had a goal and an assist. Classmate Morgan Weireter (Oak Park, Calif./Tilton School) made 17 stops.
The Purple Knights scored four times in an 8:33 stretch during the first quarter, with junior Cooper Quenneville (Shoreham, Vt./Gould Academy) netting the game's first marker at 9:46 before Antolino added a pair and dished an assist to Donnally to make it 4-0. The Penmen got on the board at 13:45 of the second period, but Saint Michael's senior D.J. Dauria (Sherborn, Mass./Dover-Sherborn) matched the marker with one of his own at 5:33 for his fourth tally in two games. The visitors led 5-1 at halftime.
After Glackin fired home a shot 23 seconds into the second half, Southern New Hampshire scored the final two goals of the period to trail just 6-3 heading into the fourth quarter. There, Antolino, Glackin and junior Tim McDonald (Walpole, Mass./Walpole) all found the back of the net during the opening 6:34 to produce a six-goal margin. LaTorre scored twice in the final 6:49 to account for the remainder of the scoring.
Saint Michael's returns home to face Assumption College on Saturday at 1 p.m.
