Donnally and Hunt combine for nine, power Purple Knights past Dominican

SAN RAFAEL, Calif. - Senior Kevin Hunt (Johnstown, N.Y./Johnstown) and junior Pete Donnally (Madison, N.J./Morristown-Beard School) combined to score nine goals as the Saint Michael's College men's lacrosse team defeated Dominican University of California, 16-7, on Thursday at Forest Meadows Field. The Purple Knights improve to 3-1, including 2-0 during their California trip, while the Penguins fall to 3-3.

Donnally finished with five goals, while Hunt added four markers and one helper for the Purple Knights. Junior Marty Vanzo (Westford, Vt./Essex/Vermont) struck twice and had one assist, while senior Paul Tortora Jr. (Fairfield, Conn./Fairfield Prep) and sophomore Connor Glackin (South Huntington, N.Y./Saint Anthony's) contributed one tally and two assists apiece. Sophomore Evan Antolino (Exeter, N.H./Exeter) scored one goal and had one helper, while classmate Chris DeMairo (Bethpage, N.Y./Bethpage) made five stops.

Freshman Kevin Powers (Issaquah, Wash./Issaquah) led the Penguins with two goals and one assist, while sophomore Dalton Copeland (Novato, Colo./Novato) contributed two markers. Classmate Sean Donohue (Manhattan Beach, Calif./Mira Costa) made 10 saves in 35:35.

Vanzo and Antolino put the Purple Knights on the board first, scoring 27 seconds apart, with the latter coming at 6:51 of the first quarter. The Penguins cut the lead in half at 3:25 before Donnally tallied two goals in the final 2:27 of first stanza to give Saint Michael's a 4-1 edge.

Dominican sliced into the Purple Knights lead just eight seconds into the second frame, but Donnally scored 3:04 later, sparking a 6-1 Saint Michael's run during which he scored three goals, helping his team take a commanding 10-3 lead early in the third quarter.

The Penguins tallied four out of the next five goals, with two coming with a man advantage, to make it an 11-7 game with 12:55 remaining in the contest, but the Purple Knights scored five more times in an ensuing 1:31 span, with Hunt capping it off at 10:34.

The Purple Knights finish their California Spring Break trip on Saturday at Notre Dame de Namur (Calif.) University at 7 p.m. ET/4 p.m. PT.
