Fifth Annual Purple Knight Challenge Fundraising Competition Begins Sept. 14

Starting Sept. 14, Contribute Here!

COLCHESTER, Vt. - The Saint Michael's College Department of Athletics and Department of Institutional Advancement are proud to announce the fifth annual Purple Knight Challenge, a fundraising competition benefiting each of the 21 varsity Purple Knight athletic teams, begins next Tuesday, Sept. 14 and runs through Monday, Sept. 20.

Once the Challenge begins, visit to contribute and track the live, up-to-date leaderboard. During the first four years of the Challenge, more than 5,800 gifts were made toward a total of nearly $420,000. Last year alone, Purple Knight programs were gifted more than $201,000.

Alumni, friends, family and fans are encouraged to make gifts of any size to their favorite programs during the week of the Challenge. Contributions of every amount help, with gifts directly impacting Saint Michael's student-athletes while helping offset costs of such essentials as recruitment, travel, uniforms and equipment, not to mention new endeavors in an ever-changing landscape during the COVID-19 pandemic: strength training and conditioning for student-athletes; mental health and social justice initiatives led by student-athletes; the new Knights Standard student leadership group; and expanded facility support for training and conditioning, and resources to accommodate health and safety protocols.

Thanks to the support of donors, nearly 1,400 gifts were made toward a total of more than $201,000 between all 21 varsity athletic programs during last year's competition, accounting for nearly half of all funds raised in the history of the Challenge. The two teams that received the most gifts were women's lacrosse - for the second straight year - and men's tennis, while men's basketball, men's soccer and women's soccer rounded out a tight competition for the top five.

In terms of top dollar figures, Alpine skiing led the way with $15,964, followed by men's soccer ($13,029), men's ice hockey ($11,777), Nordic skiing ($11,368) and men's basketball ($10,525). Seventeen programs earned more than $2,000 to aid their student-athletes' experiences.
